Volvo S60

The Volvo S60 is a car of the D segment produced by Swedish automaker Volvo since 2000. Two generations of the sedan have been produced. The V60 is a wagon version of the second generation S60. The Volvo S60 was on the Volvo P2 platform, which eventually became the common built with other Volvo models like the Volvo S80, Volvo V70, Volvo XC70 and Volvo XC90.

Volvo S60 First Generation (2000-2009)

The Volvo S60 was to be started in 2000, when the new generation sports sedan society. The S60 is intended to compete primarily with the BMW 3 Series and C-Class from Mercedes-Benz. Unlike its rivals, the Volvo S60 production took nine years at several facelifts. The S60 was renovated in 2005. The exterior has with side moldings in body color and chrome coatings bumper and new headlamps replace the original black box has been updated. The interior received updates, with new seats, trim, center console and updated. The S60 had a facelift with full body colored bumpers and door moldings and emblem on the large letter spacing front end of 2008 and “Volvo” on the back. Inside, a new pattern of padding that differs from the original model. The S60 came with the radio unit itself Standard Volvo HU-650 and HU-850 optional unit. Has the HU-850 unit, a power of 525 watts with 3 presets: 2 channels, 3-channel Dolby Digital and Pro Logic II surround sound. The Four-C chassis from the S60 R became an option on some S60s. The T5 engine was redesigned and 2.3-2.4 liters, received an increase of 10 hp additional D5 to D5 turbo model also hp 163 hp 183 hp increase.

Volvo S60 Second Generation  (2010-present)

The second generation S60 began production in Ghent, Belgium, 17 May 2010, with a planned annual production capacity of 90,000 vehicles. Official photos were published in November 2009, and the car was publicly unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2010. He debuted as a 2011 model in North America. The V60 is a wagon version of the S60, and was released at the Paris Salon in October 2010.

The range of engines for the Volvo S60 and Volvo V60 has four petrol and three diesel. The engines available are oil T3, T4, T5 and T6 and D3, D5 and 1.6D DRIVe diesel, the last of which was the start-stop technique to increase engine performance. The 2.4-liter D5 version of plug-in hybrid, with a 5-cylinder engine and an electric motor 50kW diesel engine is the schedule for sale in Europe in November 2012.

The Volvo S60 and Volvo V60 comes standard with Volvo City Safety that the same system that equips its sister XC60. The system keeps the car in the event of an impending “City Traffic” collision under 19 miles per hour. A new security feature called “Pedestrian Detection”, available on both the V60 and S60, and people collected before the car automatically brakes if the driver does not react in time.

This new sedan show completely new design language already seen in the Volvo XC60 concept. Be mounted on the same platform as the XC60. The new design is intended to guide the younger population. Nevertheless, Volvo expects its appeal to customers to get high income since the first generation Volvo S60 buyer had a higher family income to a customer of the BMW 3 Series. New features include the new large Volvo iron symbol, parallel to the grating day-beam and big letters from one another brand name on the back. A new safety feature, Pedestrian Detection is added to the brakes automatically if a pedestrian is detected in front of the car and the driver does not react in time.

Volvo S60 Speed Record

On 14 and 15 October 2000, the first generation Volvo S60 T5 broke 18 world speed records on British soil at the Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire, UK. A joint project between Volvo and Prodrive at Channel 4 and driven car magazine. The Volvo S60  was with the exception of changes to the security settings standard, like a cage, modified, cut out switch, tank and additional head support for the driver to rest in the hollow neck 2 hours between pit stops. Each pit stop with driver changes, refueling and tire change due to the extreme stresses that are placed outside front tire.

Volvo S60 Motorsport

In 2006, entered in Speed, Motorsports S60R all-wheel-drive five races in the SCCA Pro Racing World Challenge GT class. It was driven by Michael Galati and finished 14th Total, including a win at Mosport. Since 2009, K-PAX Racing sent two S60s the GT class, with former champion Andy Pilgrim and Randy Pobst as drivers. In 2010, Randy Pobst won the GT drivers’ championship, while ensuring championship GT manufacturer Volvo. For the 2011 K-PAX will debut its new S60s using the second generation body style of Miller Motorsports Park. Join GT driver’s champion Randy Pobst will be new team mate Alex Figge.

In recent years, the Volvo S60 is the car factory team in the Swedish Car Championship, where he won second place in the drivers’ standings and the title twice manufacturer once. From 2002-2007 there was a S60 in a number of breeds that a number of Swedish Touring Car Championship to take the S60 Challenge Cup, with 26 cars Volvo S60 modified plant.
