The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is a high-performance Mustang Coupe version, available in a single trim level. The 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 standard equipment starts with a loaded 5.2-liter V8 that connects the seven-speed dual-clutch and the rear wheel. Three other key performance-enhancing refrigerators, an adjustment damper, a rear torsion differential, race-level Brembo brakes, and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.

Hardcore performance doesn’t limit comfort, however. Inside, the GT500 features leather-wrapped front seats with simulated inserts, a digital-width cluster screen, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and an 8-inch Ford Sync 3 infotainment system with touch screen and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.

Serious fans may want to add an optional Handling or Carbon Fiber Track package. The former has added a Gurney slope to the rear spoiler to improve aerodynamic performance. The 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500, on the other hand, provides fine adjustment with 20-inch carbon-fiber wheels, revamped tires and adjustable upper straps, Recaro front seats, and a carbon-fiber interior. The Carbon Fiber Track package also removes the back seat to save weight.

The interior of the GT500 is pretty standard stuff on the Mustang. This means that most modern Ford owners can immediately recognize it, which means that the GT500 has the same strengths and weaknesses as other Mustangs. The buttons are plentiful, especially on the steering wheel, and it’s very easy to press the wrong one. Entering the driver’s seat, unless there is a high exception, probably means that you have to squeeze between the driver’s lower thighs and the thicker thighs in the seat, assuming you have chosen Recaro seats. There may or may not be rear seats. In both cases, space occurs in a typical Mustang.

It’s amazing that Ford has been so tough with the apparent core technology of the GT500. Navigation and a decent audio system are included in the optional technology package. You’ll need this package for driver assistance, such as blind-spot tracking and rear-end traffic alert. The free return timer and g-meters don’t come close to doing that. The internal features of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are great and work well, even if you keep your phone browsing while you listen to terrestrial or satellite radio. Although well-ordered, the GT500’s operating drivers don’t have to have a candle in front of what’s available on the Camaro ZL1.

2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Engine

The 2020 Shelby GT500’s only propulsion — loaded with a 5.2-liter 5.2-liter V-8 with a two-speed 7500 rpm dual-speed automatic gearbox is designed for high-speed, but it wants to test the engine components only through the rear tires. This Shelby is not as fast as expected. The GT500 will be good for the 3.5-second regatta at 60 mph and the 11.0-second three-mile test protocol. Cars with lower power, but with a larger rear handle, such as the mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette, will exceed this time by approximately zero to 60 mph. At the racetrack, the GT500 cuts blurry changes and is as threatening as the sounds. Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires are standard, but the optional Cup 2 tires become an apex-hunting machine that transforms the GT500. While it weighs in at 4,200 pounds, the GT500 sits with confidence and fits in without hesitation.

2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Safety

Ford offers active safety and driver assistance on smaller non-GT500 Mustangs. Despite the high price of the sticker, Shelby buyers will be required to perform automatic emergency braking, adjustable cross control, lane departure warning, and automatic beams. The protection camera is a standard camera and blind-spot tracking is included in Package Technology. Key security features include a rear-facing camera and blind-spot tracking for the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 models.
